Now that the dust has settled following the jubilation after Orlando Pirates’ progression to the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup, the club is aware of the uncomfortable challenge that awaits them…
The Buccaneers soldiered beyond the off-field drama that encapsulated the fixture to beat Simba SC over two legs to set up a clash with Al Ahly Tripoli in the last four of the competition.
However, an even bigger challenge awaits Pirates.
By their own admission, the Buccaneers struggled in their travels to Libya last year where they had to overcome playing on an artificial turf. The Soweto giants did well to get a point against Al Ahly Bhengazi in Libya before returning to Mzansi to complete the job with a 3-0 win.

Speaking to the media, Pirates first team coach Mandla Ncikazi has opened up on they plan to navigate the challenge in the semi-final.
“We have to try and get an artificial turf, my recommendation before. I know its different and its not as good. But when we went there the first time, we did not train on an artificial turf and some of our players are really uncomfortable, but it is what it is, you can’t choose your parents, you were born in that family.
“We have to go there and make the best of it. We can’t complain, it’s not the stage to complain. Pirates must fight like soldiers and represent the badge, the country, and the millions of Pirates supporters,” he said.
It is back to domestic action for the Buccaneers however, as they take on Chippa United at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday before a rare Monday fixture against TS Galaxy next week.
