The future of Bafana Bafana attacker Luther Singh has come under the spotlight, after another stellar season in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
Singh who is on the books of Braga SC, spent the season on loan with Paços Ferreira where he relished in the game-time handed to him by coach Jorge Simão.
It’s safe to say that the Stars of Africa youth product enjoyed a fine season at the Capital do Móvel Municipal Stadium, scoring five goals and setting up a further five assists in the 30 matches that he played, helping Paços to an impressive fifth place finish this season.
Singh also finished as the club’s third goalscorer behind João Pedro (6) and Douglas Tanque (11).
Now, with his loan spell at Paços coming to an end, Singh’s future has once again become a topic of hot debate.
The 23-year-old is contracted to Braga until 2023 having penned a five-year contract in 2018, but indications are that he is not part of Carlos Carvalhal’s plans, making a return to his mother club highly unlikely, which opens up the possibility of a return to Paços - albeit on another loan spell.
According to Portuguese website OJogo, Paços have made Singh their top priority ahead of the 2021/22 campaign, especially with the club having qualified for the UEFA Conference League, and are set to open talks with Braga in a bid to retain his services.
There was also interest in Singh’s services from a number of Belgian clubs last season, including Anderlecht, who were looking to bring the player on board at the time.
Singh is currently back in South Africa where he has been keeping fit with the Stars of Africa Academy, while he waits to see where he will be playing his football in the new season.
