Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs have been warned not to count the points for the games they have in hand.
As things stand, Amakhosi have 16 matches on board, while leaders Mamelodi Sundowns have played 19 matches. Two of the matches Chiefs have in hand are from the ones they were unable to honour to in December, against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows, after there was a Covid-19 outbreak at the Village.
Former Amakhosi goalkeeper Aubrey Mathibe feels the club should forget about the points in the two matches they did not honour and rather focus on the remaining encounters in the Premiership, so that they can fight to finish in the top three.
"It's tricky when you count the points from the games in hand because the competition is high and everyone is doing well, so it won't be easy in the remaining months of the season. But when you check how things were before the break, there was some momentum. It would be good for the to fight for top three, so that they can qualify for one of the CAF tournaments. Even if those six points are taken away from them (from the matches against City and Arrows), I don't think it will disturb them too much because they are doing well," Mathibe told the Siya crew.
"I think it will be a good season for them if they can finish number two or three, so that next season they can fight for the league. For me, they should forget about the six points and fight for second or third because Sundowns is too far ahead of them."
