Middendorp Sees ‘Every Team Fighting’

It’s the time of year where there’s ‘a scrape for points’ as Kaizer Chiefs aim to stay on top of the Absa Premiership, but they’re hoping for a better game in KwaZulu-Natal this weekend.

Chiefs drew 1-1 with Black Leopards on Saturday as they were pegged back by the hosts to share the spoils in Limpopo, while Mamelodi Sundowns’ 2-1 win over SuperSport United saw them cut Amakhosi’s lead to seven points on Sunday.

Now, following the game in Thohoyandou, Ernst Middendorp and his Amakhosi side are turning their attentions to Steve Komphela’s Golden Arrows, and he’s aware of how tough things are going to get as they head into the final 12 games of the season.

Speaking to Chiefs’ official website, “It’s that time of the season where you see every team fighting… We are still going to see many of these sort of games. There’s a scrape for points now. Teams are looking at chasing the league title, some fighting to avoid relegation. So, it’s not going to be easy for all the teams.

“We will take this point as a minimum from the match. We have to recover fast and get ready for our next match against Golden Arrows. It’s going to be another tough match, but at least the pitch should be conducive to play our style of football.”

Over the weekend, Samir Nurkovic became the first player to reach double figures in the Absa Premiership for Chiefs since Bernard Parker got 10 in 2013/14, and he’s on track to become their highest-scoring forward since Knowledge Musona if he keeps up his form – he’ll be hoping to do so in Durban on Saturday.
