Kaizer Chiefs have plenty to be happy about right now going into their Telkom Knockout quarter-final, and three players in particular have been singled out for praise.
Chiefs are sitting pretty on top of the Absa Premiership table after nine games played, and boosted their title ambitions over the weekend with an impressive 2-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns to go five points clear.
Samir Nurkovic was the hero on the day as he bagged a brace at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, and the Serbian striker was one of the players that Ernst Middendorp spoke highly of, while he also mentioned that ‘youngsters are important in our planning’.
Speaking to Chiefs’ official website, “Nurković’s work rate is exceptional. He influences the team; he is impactful, and he motivates others… I am happy with the impact of Dumsani Zuma. He always comes on and makes a difference. The combination we played is not written in stone. We vary things according to the demand of the game.
“(Njabulo) Blom played in Poland in different positions at the World Cup. He is adaptable and he did a fantastic job for us. We are still waiting for Nkosingiphile Ngcobo who’s recovering and Happy Mashiane is progressing well too. These youngsters are important in our planning.”
Blom is the latest Amakhosi academy product to come through into the first team setup as the club enjoys a bit of a boom in terms of youth promotion, and the talented teenager will be hoping to get is first shot at a Soweto Derby this weekend when they tackle Orlando Pirates in the TKO quarter-final.
