In This Week’s Edition Of Soccer Laduma

In anticipation of this week’s 1274th edition of Soccer Laduma, we preview some of the features included. The latest edition will be available at your nearest outlet on Wednesday, May 18th.

Manqoba Mngqithi Interview

Mamelodi Sundowns will officially be crowned the 2021/22 DStv Premiership champions after their last league match this Saturday. The Tshwane giants’ co-coach, Mngqithi, took some time off to speak to Soccer Laduma about his working relationship with fellow coaches Rhulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela. He also shares insights into the behind-the-scenes operations between the Three Wise Men, as they have been christened in the football fraternity. The former Golden Arrows head coach also opens up about winning the league title for a record fifth time and their dominance over Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in recent times. It is a fascinating read, so don’t miss it!

CAF Confederation Cup Final Preview

On Sunday evening, Orlando Pirates did enough to secure passage into the Confed Cup final, to be played in Uyo in Nigeria on Friday. It is the club’s third continental showpiece in a decade and their fourth overall. With the previous two finals in this competition ending in defeats, Bucs will want to go one better this time around. They were on six-year trophy drought in December 2021 before lifting the MTN8. Standing in their way is RS de Berkane of Morocco, who have real pedigree in this tournament having lifted it in 2020. What are the players to Pirates watch out for? How did the two teams reach this stage? How should Pirates up? These are the questions being delved into in this preview.

Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo Interview

It’s easy to mistake Ndlondlo for a seasoned pro, considering his outstanding performances for Marumo Gallants, but he’s only been playing in Mzansi’s topflight for only two seasons. Having helped the club, back then under the name Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, to Nedbank Cup success last season, he’ll be looking to finish 2021/22 in style, by winning the same competition, where they are up against Mamelodi Sundowns in the final. The special occasion will take place on his birthday, so what better motivation does the pint-sized midfielder need! In an interview with Soccer Laduma, he talks about the upcoming final and returning to CAF action next season. He also fields a question about his snub for Bafana Bafana.

Also In Issue 1274…

Semra Hunter Interview

Hunter is a world-renowned football broadcast journalist. A lead presenter for LaLiga TV’s flagship television programme ‘Viva Liga’, she has comprehensive knowledge of the Spanish topflight, which she has covered for close to a decade. The Los Angeles native often shares the studio with football legends and pundits such as Gary Lineker, Albert Ferrer, Gaizka Mendieta and Lauren, just to name a few! In this interview, Semra speaks to Soccer Laduma and has a look at the progress of all of Spain’s top clubs during the 2021/22 season, from Joan Laporta’s presidency at Barcelona and Real Madrid’s reliance on Karim Benzema to Diego Simeone’s erratic campaign with Atletico Madrid and Ansu Fati’s return from injury.

Player Of The Season – Last 8

Soccer Laduma launched the voting process for the readers’ Player of the Season, which included a list of 16 players that stood in line to be voted into the next round. Perhaps predictably, the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns duo Peter Shalulile and Andile Jali, Victor Letsoalo of Royal AM and Cape Town City’s last line of defence Hugo Marques were among the nominees, having enjoyed good seasons with their respective sides. We now have the eight names of those voted into the next round – get your copy of this week’s edition and check them out, and get voting on the Soccer Laduma website from Wednesday while at it!

Revolving Column

This week, we hear from former Baroka FC midfielder Letladi Madubanya, as he gives his take on the relegation scrapheap ahead of the last games of the season this weekend. He reveals who he tips for relegation and to go to the playoffs, and also has his say on Orlando Pirates progressing to the final of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Siyagobhoza

In this week’s edition of the popular Siyagobhoza section, there is fresh news on Zitha Kwinika’s impending move to Kaizer Chiefs, a name being added to Orlando Pirates’ wish-list, Mamelodi Sundowns in advanced talks with a DStv Premiership star, and more…
