In anticipation of this week’s 1273rd edition of Soccer Laduma, we preview some of the features included. The latest edition will be available at your nearest outlet on Wednesday, May 11th.
Orlando Pirates v Al Ahli Tripoli Preview
Pirates have placed one foot in the CAF Confederation Cup final after registering a 2-0 victory in the first leg of their semi-final tie against Al Ahli Tripoli, and now just need to wrap it up on home soil to qualify for the final for the first time since they were defeated by Tunisian giants Etoile du Sahel in the 2015 edition. It’s been a difficult campaign for Bucs, but it still has the potential to end with a trophy in the cabinet. In this preview, Soccer Laduma talks to a member of that squad that experienced heartbreak seven years ago, as he furnishes the current crop with useful advice for the home leg. We also look at key players from both sides.
Tiyani Mabunda Interview
Deciding to end your playing career is not always easy, especially when it’s done earlier than expected. Mabunda started contemplating retirement two years before he actually called it a day, so it made it a lot easier when the time actually came at the end of 2020/21. He stopped playing at 33 to become an Sundowns’ club ambassador, a role suited for someone considering his close ties with the side’s passionate supporters. In his face-to-face with Soccer Laduma this week, the former midfielder talks about various topics including how he’s immersed himself in his role, how the Yellow Nation recently surprised him, working with Alex Shakoane, and more.
Dumisani Zuma Siya Special
‘Chaotic’ is perhaps an apt description of Zuma’s season at Kaizer Chiefs, and as a result, there’s uncertainty surrounding his future with the club, owing to his two suspensions in one campaign. Whew! From being touted as a player for the future at the club, things have not quite gone according to plan for the player, for this reason and the other. This season, however, has been the toughest for the speedy star, having to recover from injury and then try to get into Stuart Baxter’s starting line-up, which seemed an impossible task before the former Bafana Bafana mentor parted ways with the Soweto giants recently. As things stand, Zuma’s future with Amakhosi is set to be discussed over the next few weeks and an exit cannot be ruled out. The Siya crew went digging…

Ruzaigh Gamildien Interview
A suggestion has been made that Gamildien’s failed move to Kaizer Chiefs took its toll on the Cape Town-born striker as he has struggled to replicate the form of last season. Whereas he was banging in the goals in 2020/21, the current campaign has been a different kettle of fish. While he has managed to keep his place in the starting line-up at Swallows FC and is still playing regularly in what has been a tough season for them, the 33-year-old will be the first to admit that he could have done a lot better. In an interview with Soccer Laduma, Gamildien opens up on how he moved on from the failed Amakhosi move, discusses Swallows’ campaign, while also talking about the after-effects of the failed move to the Soweto giants.
Kgoloko Thobejane Interview
It goes without saying that Thobejane is one of our domestic football's most charismatic personalities. With much of his popularity garnered by his now infamous refrain: “football will kill you”, fans were elated when he returned to the sidelines for Baroka FC late last year following a lengthy hiatus. Unfortunately, that stint was short-lived as Thobejane was recently demoted to the "Bakgaga" reserve side following a string of poor results. In a no-holds-barred interview with Soccer Laduma, the outspoken chronicles the difficulties he encountered prior to his demotion, reveals his honest thoughts on caretaker coach Vincent Kobola and hits back at his critics!
This week, we hear from former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs man Katlego Mphela, who shares his thoughts on last weekend’s game between the two sides. ‘Killer’, as he is popularly known in football circles, also believes Arthur Zwane isn’t yet ready to coach Amakhosi. Find out why…
In this week’s edition of the popular Siyagobhoza section, there is news on Mamelodi Sundowns offering one of their key men a new deal, Kaizer Chiefs having to having out the money for a top target, Orlando Pirates’ interest in a Chippa United star, and more…
