In This Week’s Edition Of Soccer Laduma

In anticipation of this week’s 1225th edition of Soccer Laduma, we preview some of the features included. The latest edition will be available at your nearest outlet tomorrow, Wednesday, May 26.

Molefi Ntseki Interview

Such was the collective sense of disappointment at Bafana Bafana failing to qualify for next year’s Afcon in Cameroon that Ntseki was relieved of his duties as soon as he touched down from Sudan, where the South African national team needed only a point to qualify, only to lose 2-0. To his credit, and in an incredible touch of responsible leadership, the soft-spoken coach owned up to this failure, saying he was to blame for how things turned out. However, drama was to follow in the days and weeks that ensued, as he was reportedly at loggerheads with SAFA over his settlement, then was considered for a return albeit as assistant to the new coach, only for the deal to fail to materialise after the two parties could not agree on terms. Naturally, this has left a lot of questions answered, and in his no-holds-barred interview with Soccer Laduma, the former Bloemfontein Celtic head coach leaves little to the imagination as he speaks his mind in a frank and open manner!

Josef Zinnbauer Feature

Orlando Pirates were knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup this past weekend in embarrassing fashion, meaning all the Soweto giants have left to fight for this season is second or third place on the DStv Premiership standings, which would ensure another go at continental football again next term. Despite winning the MTN8, coach Zinnbauer has been under immense pressure for the most part, and in recent weeks, calls for the German to be shown the door seem to have intensified. Bucs finished in third place, with 52 points, last season and need nine points in their final four league matches to ensure they do not end the campaign with less than what was achieved last time round. It may not guarantee the safety of his job, but Zinnbauer will know how important it is for the team not to regress under his watch. For this feature, Soccer Laduma finds out whether the MTN8 title is enough for Zinnbauer to hold onto his job for at least another season.

Dumisani Zuma Siya Special

Kaizer Chiefs signed Zuma four years ago as a future prospect they thought would be an influential figure in the dressing room by now. He arrived as part of then coach Steve Komphela’s reinforcements and was given ample time to adjust to his new surroundings after the big step up from Bloemfontein Celtic. Giovani Solinas, who came in after Komphela, used his explosive speed to good use, though he was never really a starter. And Ernst Middendorp, the man responsible for plucking him out of the Celtic youth academy and into the Siwelele first team, only used him as an impact player. Hunt appears convinced on what the future should hold for the 26-year-old, though indications are that if Chiefs may not be thinking along the same lines. Either way, it’s decision time! In this week’s Siya special, the crew reveals what Zuma’s future looks heavily dependent, as well goes in-depth on all the possible scenarios, with the season approaching its end.

Also in issue 1225…

Rodney Ramagalela Interview

It is not an ideal situation to find themselves in at this point of the season, but the reality is that things are looking gloomy for Black Leopards, whose survival hopes hang by a thread. The man leading Lidoda Duvha’s survival charge on the field is veteran striker Rodney Ramagalela. The 32-year-old made a return to the club this campaign, following a tumultuous time where, at one stage, he was outside of football for a while. In his interview with Soccer Laduma’s Delmain Faver, the veteran campaigner talks about the Limpopo-based outfit’s struggles in 2020/21, why he hasn’t been scoring as regularly and how a drop to the second tier could affect their supporters.

Richard Rantjie Interview

Remember him? A talent that came short of realising its full potential – that’s how many would choose to narrate Rantjie’s story. He burst onto the professional scene as a teenager and went on to play for the likes of SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits. The Tzaneen-born player also represented South Africa at junior and senior level but surprisingly retired from professional football quite prematurely, at only 29.  Soccer Laduma tracked down the 35-year-old to find out what he has been doing since hanging up his boots and if he has any regrets about his early retirement decision. Rantjie has a new passion for helping talented players from disadvantaged communities to realise their dreams of playing in the paid ranks, with Goodman Mosele one of his products. The former winger also shares some good memories of one former coach of his, who holds a special place in his heart.

Revolving Column

This week, we hear from former Santos midfielder Tyren Arendse, who shares his thoughts on the drama that unfolded in the GladAfrica Championship last weekend, the Big Three’s progress in CAF competitions, and much more.

Siyagobhoza

In this week’s edition of the popular Siyagobhoza section, there is news on the trialist at Kaizer Chiefs and what the latest is, a foreign coach who has apparently been offered to Orlando Pirates, a Mamelodi Sundowns player exploring European options, and more…
