A few days after indicating that Mamelodi Sundowns are looking to bolster their squad for next season, Manqoba Mngqithi has pointed out a Kaizer Chief midfielder he admires.
The Sundowns co-coach said the planning has already started to beef up the team in the upcoming transfer window with a central midfielder, centre-back and a striker high on the club’s priority list.

Mngqithi is seemingly very fond of Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, a fan favourite at Amakhosi.
“There’s a young player who I thought could have really set the stage alight this season based on his performances last season, the young Nkosingiphile Ngcobo from Kaizer Chiefs,” Mngqithi told the media.

Ngcobo missed Chiefs’ 1-all draw against Sundowns in a league game at the weekend due to injury. And Mngqithi suggested that had the former SA junior international afforded more game-time, he would be among the contenders for the DStv Premiership Player of the Season award.
“I believe had that boy had a lot of game-time this season, there was a lot he could have offered, but in terms of the Player of the Season, I think those that I have counted [Andile Jali, Themba Zwane, Keagan Dolly] deserve it,” added Mngqithi.

The 22-year-old exciting midfielder featured in 40 games in all competitions and netted four goals in the 2020/2021 season under former coach Gavin Hunt. He was instrumental as Amakhsoi reached the CAF Champions League final.
However, this season, Ngcobo has only made 14 league appearances and scored two goals.
The former SA junior international was not a favourite of former Amakhosi mentor, Stuart Baxter, who admitted to struggling to find the ‘best role’ for Ngcobo in his team.
