How Controversial Coach Came Close To An Absa Prem Gig, Calls For His Ban

The Siya crew has it on good authority that interest had been shown in Luc Eymael by an Absa Premiership club, before their recent appointment of a new coach.

Following his re-appointment at Chippa United at the beginning of the month as the general manager, Morgan Mammila made attempts to get the Belgian coach to join the Eastern Cape outfit as the club’s head coach.

However, due to his contractual obligations at Tanzanian Premier League club Young Africans, Eymael was not immediately available for the Chilli Boys’ role.

The club went on to appoint former Bloemfontein Celtic Lehlohonolo Seema, following his sudden resignation from the Mangaung club.

“He (Mammila) spoke to him (Eymael) but he was told that the coach’s contract would expire at the end of July,” confirmed a close source.

Chippa have been tracking Eymael since last year, before his stint with Black Leopards which lasted only from September to the end of the year.

Meanwhile the South African Football Coaches Association (SAFCA) has lashed out at Eymael for the derogatory comments he made about the people of Tanzania whom he compared to monkeys and dogs.

“SAFCA reaffirms its long-standing view that African countries, their clubs, and football associations should have a more rigorous and thorough approach when appointing foreign coaches. History of African football shows that very few “non-African” coaches who have worked on the continent have left any sort of positive long-lasting legacy in the development and progression of African Football,” said SAFCA President, Greg Mashilo in a statement on SAFA's website.

“Eymael has a history of disrespecting Africans and African football, yet he continues to get coaching jobs around our continent, more particularly in South Africa where he was recycled within our professional clubs. The critical need for clubs and football associations to have an anti-racism clause in the contracts and Code of Conduct/Ethics, is understated,” added Mashilo.

SAFCA recommends that strong action should be taken against Eymael and that he should be banned from working not only in African football but globally.
