Chiefs Star Has Bad Baroka Memories

Kaizer Chiefs will have some unpleasant memories of last season’s dramatic final day of the campaign when they take on Baroka FC in their next DStv Premiership match.

Chiefs were held to a 1-1 draw by Baroka FC on the final day of last season, which ended their hopes of winning the Premiership title. Amakhosi were top of the standings going into the final day of the season, but Bakgaga spoilt the party as Mamelodi Sundowns went on to win the title.

After their goalless draw with Stellenbosch over the weekend, the Soweto giants will now host Baroka at FNB Stadium, looking to get back to winning ways ahead of this weekend’s Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates.

“Obviously we won’t forget them. We played against them in the last game of last season and we all know what happened. They are a difficult team to play against, just like all the teams in the Premiership. When you play every three days, there’s no simple team to play against. We are all pushing to be fresh for the next game. Baroka lost their last game and it’s difficult to play a team that lost their last game. But we are focused on things we need to improve on,” Manyama told the Chiefs media department.

Manyama recently recovered from COVID-19 and scored a goal in a 3-0 victory over Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila. He was delighted to help the team and is inspired to do more going forward.

“I want to always play, but unfortunately for personal reasons, I was not able to. I am someone who wants to always help the team. It was difficult while I was away, but the good thing is that the team was winning. I am back now and I am trying to help and I am trying to get back to my best because when you are out for a few weeks, it’s not easy. I am trying to find my feet and there are positive signs, of which I am happy with. I will carry on one game at a time.”

“I am a player who likes getting involved, whether it’s with assists or goals for the team. Last season there were many goals and assists, but obviously, we are in a different season. It’s not simply playing every three days. We are trying to push and we are trying to be better. At this moment I don’t think we care who scores, as long as the team wins.”
