Mamelodi Sundowns are thought to have now also completed the signing of one of their long-term targets from a rival Premier Soccer League outfit.
It was a month ago that SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews confirmed that their crosstown rivals had made a formal bid for versatility player Aubrey Modiba, and indications are that the deal has been concluded.
Modiba has been on Sundowns’ radar more than a year now and was close to switching from one Tshwane club to another in January, but the deal collapsed after the two parties could not agree on a transfer fee.
Siya sources have informed the crew that this stumbling block has been dealt with this time around, though the figure was not disclosed.
“If we narrow down which player to sell, to be fair it’s going to come down to Aubrey Modiba, he is the one linked with the most moves all the time. He is the one that Sundowns have been pursuing the most,” Matthews told the SA Football Journalists’ Association last month.
The SuperSport boss also said at the time that a decision would be taken at the end of the season, but he’d made it clear that the player would leave.
According to those who are privy to details of Modiba’s imminent switch to Chloorkop, the player has agreed to a four-year contract with an added option for one more season.
