TTM Target PSL Coach

Following the announcement of the purchase of Bidvest Wits' top-flight status, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila are expected to make changes to their technical team as the club prepares for its first season in the elite league.

The club has already confirmed that current Wits coach Gavin Hunt will not be relocating to Limpopo next season and have commenced their search for a new head coach.

With their experienced Serbian coach Vladislav Heric put on a special leave, the Siya crew reported that Sammy Troughton and Joel Masutha were some of the coaches linked with TTM.

Now, it has emerged that the Venda outfit have identified Highlands Park coach Owen Da Gama as their potential head coach for next season, with the club having already made contact with the 58-year-old.

Highlands’ co-director and shareholder Sinki Mnisi says the Lions of the North would be glad to retain his services, however the ultimate decision lies with the coach himself.

“My feelings are that we would like to keep him at Highlands, he is a good coach, however in life we must understand that nobody can stay forever- I think it was only Sir Alex Ferguson who stayed at Manchester United until he decided to resign. Other than that, coaches come and go and that is a fact.

"If other teams are interested in the coach, it all depends on him and what he wants to do but it will be sad to lose a coach of his calibre to our rivals, if I were to put it that way. Unless if he was going to the national team. However, that is the reality and as sad as it would be, we would have to take it on the chin,” Mnisi added.

The former national under-23 coach, who is a fluent Venda speaker, is no stranger to working with newly-promoted teams having been with Highlands Park since their promotion to the top flight in the 2017/18 campaign. Da Gama still has one year left on his contract with the Lions of the North.
