Teboho Mokoena has sent a heartfelt message to SuperSport United, after his high-profile move to cross-town rivals, Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mokoena spent the better part of eight years at Matsatsantsa where he has gone on to become one of the club’s best players, catapulted into seniority despite his young age.
On Thursday, the 25-year-old completed his move to the Brazilians, penning a four and a half-year deal with the DStv Premiership champions but not without sending a message to the club that had groomed him from the age of 17.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank SuperSport United, for the chance they gave me in 2015 and the road they paved for me. I arrived here as a child, and I am leaving as a man. I am grateful for everything I achieved at SuperSport, all the trophies that I won and all the care they showed me, I am really grateful for that. I would like to thank Mr Stan Matthews, the Chairman, the technical team, and the players of SuperSport United as well as the fans, because I am here because of them. If it wasn’t for their support and belief, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve the things that I did,” he told the media.
At Sundowns, the Bafana Bafana international will undoubtedly find himself outside of his comfort zone with stiff competition in the Brazilians’ star-studded midfield, a challenge the Bethlehem-born star is relishing.
“Now that I am here at Mamelodi Sundowns I feel very happy, I’ve been looking forward to this challenge and like I always say, there is no growth in your comfort zone, so I came here knowing that it won’t be easy for me. I am willing to work hard and earn my place in the future.”
