Orlando Pirates striker, Zakhele Lepasa, has lauded the talent in the South African U23 squad as he hopes to continue with his impressive form and progress this season.
Lepasa started the 2020/21 season with a bang, having played in all six matches for the Buccaneers so far in the league and MTN8 respectively, and was one of the goalscorers in the 3-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in their first leg semi-final match in the prestigious cup competition.
The 23-year-old, who has been called up to the SA U23 squad in preparation for the Olympics, has spoken about the team.
“I think it’s every player’s ambition to play there and luckily for some of us who were not chosen in the initial squad which was set out to go there now that there’s been a delay, there’s now more time and anything can happen,” said Lepasa, speaking to the media.
“It’s an opportunity to raise my hand because the under-23 pool is full of talented people and you need to show why you need to be there. I just need to raise my hand, it starts with you,” the Bucs star added.
As confirmed by SAFA, the SA U23 will play international friendly matches against Saudi Arabia in Jeddah on 14 and 17 November respectively.
