With Orlando Pirates having only three matches remaining in their DStv Premiership campaign, eyebrows will be raised regarding Gabadinho Mhango’s future with the club after a disappointing season.
Mhango has featured in only five league matches for the Buccaneers this season with just two starts to his name and has moved down the pecking order under co-coaches Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids.

Despite the confirmation from Mhango’s camp in December to the Siya crew that Bucs exercised their option on the player’s contract, indications are that the Malawian could still seek a move at the end of the current season in search of greener pastures, with his sights set on a possible overseas switch.
Since 2020 after his first season with Pirates where he scored 16 goals from 28 league appearances, Mhango has been linked with a move abroad, although the Soweto giants opted to keep him in the squad in the last two seasons.
Recent reports have linked the 29-year-old with an overseas move again, and due to his lack of regular game-time at Bucs, the forward is believed to be considering the switch and will be assessing his options at the end of the season.

Mhango was understood to have impressed with his performances at the Africa Cup of Nations with the Malawi national team earlier this year and will not be short of options if he leaves Bucs.
A decision is expected by Pirates in the coming weeks on Mhango’s future, as the club will be making plans for next season after a disappointing PSL campaign with inconsistent results and no trophies.
As reported in edition 1267 of Soccer Laduma, Mhango’s name has been mentioned in a proposed swap deal between Pirates and Royal AM as the KwaZulu-Natal team’s leading and sought-after striker Victor Letsoalo is linked with a Gauteng move.
