Bidvest Wits top scorer Gift Motupa says he would join Absa Premiership rivals Mamelodi Sundowns – only if the Clever Boys gave him the green light.
The 25-year-old forward has this month attracted interest from the reigning league champions, who are looking to beef up their attack for the second half of the season in an attempt to retain the title and win the CAF Champions League again.

Until Thursday, there had been no official confirmation from Wits or Sundowns about a potential deal, but Motupa confirmed the interest.
“They haven’t approached me, but what I know is that they approached my team, though I don’t know what happened from there. I am contracted to Wits. I am happy where I am, but if my team agrees I would go,” the player, speaking after he was named Player of the Month for December on Thursday afternoon, said.
Motupa has enjoyed a purple patch recently, which has led to an impressive 11 goals in 20 games from all competitions.
It’s likely that is why Downs have targeted him and Motupa added he was flattered by the interest from a side coached by Pitso Mosimane.
“It’s good to be linked to a team like Sundowns, but I can’t talk about that one. But it is good in the sense that Sundowns compete in the CAF Champions League every year and every player would love to have that experience and win more trophies. So far, over the last six years, they have been winning more trophies than every team in the PSL – everyone would love to play for that team. If you have the quality, why not join the best?,” he said.
