Having used FNB Stadium as a home venue for their CAF Champions League matches, Mamelodi Sundowns plan on taking over the calabash when they visit Kaizer Chiefs in the DSTV Premiership this weekend.
Sundowns have the luxury of playing their final few matches of the season knowing that they have the Premiership title wrapped, but that does not mean that they will stop being a nuisance to teams around them. For example, they are determined to make life difficult for Amakhosi at FNB Stadium on Sunday to, in the words of Mngqithi, show who is boss in that space.
"We are going to give this game the respect that it requires, which is why we feel it's important to urge our supporters to come in numbers because this is a match now where we are also going to fight for the calabash, to see who is the boss in that space. We have to go there with the mentality to take over the calabash," Mngqithi told media at Chloorkop on Thursday
"We are meeting the real owners of the stadium and it's that game that becomes important. The league is not the most important at this stage. What is important is that the name of Sundowns is engraved in that stadium. We also take it as our home game."
