Bafana Bafana and SuperSport can breathe a sigh of relief following the latest news on goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams.
The 30-year-old was taken off in the 57th minute in SuperSport’s goalless draw against Marumo Gallants after suffering an injury and was completely left out of the Tshwane outfit’s squad who faced Stellenbosch on Tuesday, with long-time backup Boalefa Pule in goals and Thamsanqa Gabuza handed the armband in his absence.
Reports in local media suggested that Williams’ injury could be long-term and would ultimately see him miss the rest of the season as well as Bafana Bafana’s crucial AFCON qualifiers next month.

However, the Siya crew reached out to SuperSport, who via club spokesperson Brian Moshoeshoe confirmed that the man from Port Elizabeth in Gqeberha was on the mend and has resumed light training despite initial fears that he would be joining the club’s lengthy list of long-term absentees.
The news will come as a relief for both Andre Arendse and Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.
SuperSport, as they look to hold onto their spot in the top eight of the DStv Premiership and for Bafana, who will hope to have their best players available as they take on Morocco and Zimbabwe in AFCON qualifications in June.
