When Khama Billiat meets Mamelodi Sundowns there is bound to be drama, but the Kaizer Chiefs superstar says their encounter on Sunday ‘will not determine our destiny’.
The Zimbabwean international will face his former employers in a competitive fixture for the first time this weekend since the speculation linking him with a shock return to Chloorkop in the last transfer window.
Billiat stayed at Naturena, however, and has played his role in seeing the Glamour Boys march to the top of the Absa Premiership table with a fine start to the 2019/20 campaign, though their reign on top of the log could come to an end if they don’t get a result in a few days’ time.
The 29-year-old attacker put in a fine performance as Chiefs smashed Sundowns 4-2 in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup earlier in the month, getting on the scoresheet and setting up Leonardo Castro, but now it’s time to face his old boss, Pitso Mosimane, in a game that actually matters.
Speaking to the club’s official website this week, Billiat said, “Having played against them recently, we know they are not going to make it easy for us. We will go into the game with the right mindset, not getting carried away that we beat them a few weeks ago. Right now, it requires a lot of hard work from us and we need to work on the details of the game, which will hopefully help us get the result we want.
“We need three points in every league game we play. This will put us in a better position than we were before the game. This game will not determine our destiny. We are not putting ourselves under pressure because we will have equally tough games to come. We need to collect as many points as we can in these early stages.”
Chiefs and Sundowns face off at 15h00 on Sunday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
