From Abbas Amidu to Letlhogonolo Mirwa, there have been flop signings at Kaizer Chiefs that never even made a debut, could another be joining that unenviable list?
Take a look at seven Chiefs flops that left without a debut, and where they are now, in the gallery above!
The Amakhosi have been criticised for their transfer policy in recent years, with most seasons of late ending with a squad overhaul and wholesale changes that see numerous players make their Naturena exit.
Last season was no different as the likes of Mario Booysen, Hendrick Ekstein, Virgil Vries and others had their contracts terminated, but – unlike others – they at least got to don the famous gold and black jersey before they moved on.
Looking back over the years Chiefs have seen players like Amidu come into the club and leave without playing a competitive fixture, and fellow players such as Levy Mokgothu, Enocent Mkhabela and Sakhile Hlongwa spring to mind prior to Mirwa becoming the latest player to join that list.
Now, with Chiefs seemingly going for quality over quantity, their new signings this season have already staked their claim for a regular place as Kearyn Baccus, Samir Nurkovic, Lazarous Kambole and Yagan Sasman all feature heavily under Ernst Middendorp, however there is still an odd one out.
There is now talk that James Kotei’s future at Chiefs will be discussed in the coming months as he battles to persuade Middendorp that he is deserving of a place in his side, and the Ghanaian has not even made the matchday squad since the opening day of the season.
As explained in this week’s issue of Soccer Laduma, the 26-year-old is taking up a valuable foreign spot at Chiefs currently, despite seemingly not being in the German’s plans, and there does appear to be a chance that – if things don’t improve – he could join the list of Glamour Boys who leave the club sadly debut-less.
Which player were you most disappointed in not seeing get a Chiefs debut?
