A French striker is believed to be closing in on a move to the DStv Premiership after being identified as a possible replacement for Thabiso Kutumela at Maritzburg United, the Siya crew has been informed.
After announcing Leletu Skelem as their latest signing this week, the Team of Choice is believed to be close to agreeing a deal for the transfer of the Amadou Soukouna, who is a French striker who has previously played for Toulouse FC in the French Ligue 1.
Having lost the services of both Kutumela and Judas Moseamedi from the squad of last season, Maritzburg coach Ernst Middendorp is looking to add more firepower to the team’s attack for the new season, with the former France U19 player being identified as a new addition to the side.
“There is a big possibility that Maritzburg United could sign French striker Amadou Soukouna in the coming days. He is a highly-rated player who was on the books of Toulouse in France at one stage and is a former France U19 national team player,” said the source.
“Maritzburg is keen on the player and there is likely to be a decision soon, depending on the talks between all the parties involved. Soukouna is seen as a perfect replacement for Thabiso Kutumela at the club. The player is also keen to come and play in South Africa for the first time in his career,” the source added.
Soukouna was last on the books of Hapoel Kfar Saba in Israel and is currently a free agent after parting ways with the club in June.
The 29-year-old has previously also played in Bulgaria in his career.
