Irate former Bafana Bafana coach, has slammed the SA Football Association, saying he fears the beautiful game in the country will continue to ‘go down’ under the leadership of Danny Jordaan.
The outspoken Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba is backing Ria Ledwaba for the SAFA presidency and speaking to TimesLive, suggested that Jordaan is the main reason SA football is rooted to the spot as he lacks football knowledge and vision.
“I mean, how does a president [Jordaan] talk to you about football systems when he did not play football? That’s why we are having problems,” Mashaba said to TimesLive during Ledwaba’s presidential launch in Houghton.
“It’s not that we hate some people. No, it is because we have stagnated as a football nation, and we are not progressing.”

Mashaba was relieved of his duties in his third stint as Bafana Bafana coach back in 2016 after a public clash with Jordann, insisting that the SAFA president didn’t throw his weight behind him. As a result, their relationship has been chilly.
“Whoever takes over, we want to see a new approach. It is 26 years since we won the Africa Cup of Nations [on home soil in 1996], and we are always going down. If we were at the same level, maybe it would be better,” Mashaba said.
“Ria knows it all. She once had a football team [Ria Stars], and she understands football terms. She knows what is happening and what is needed. You do not deal with people by giving them a cold attitude.”
