Cape Town City are believed to be closing in on a rough diamond that has been setting the scene alight in the country’s third division.
As they did with Craig Martin, who was signed from the Western Cape’s SAB League, who later became a success at the club, indications are that City are closing in on yet another promising striker from the country’s third tier.
Siya sources have informed the crew that Hanover Park FC striker Mogamat Samodien May has spent the last two weeks at the Citizens’ Hartleyvale base where he underwent an assessment with coach Eric Tinkler and his technical team.
The Siya crew understands that May’s impressive stats which saw him register 12 goals and seven assists in just nine games in the SAB League, is what initially caught the club’s attention.
Now, the latest news reaching the Siya crew is that the Old Mutual development product has managed to impress the City hierarchy and is set to pen a deal with the club.
The Siya crew reached out to the player’s Amsterdam-based representative Mikhail Robertson of Lion Sports Management, who confirmed the player’s assessment with the club; but he was non-committal on whether a deal has been struck, and referred all queries back to the Citizens.
Indications are that the 23-year-old will form part of coach Eric Tinkler’s side when the league resumes in February with an announcement from the club now imminent.
