A day after parting ways with Ernst Middendorp, the Siya crew has it on good authority that the club is already making headway in finding his successor.
Gavin Hunt, the front runner in taking over from the German mentor ahead of the 2020/21 season, is set for talks with the Chiefs hierarchy in the near future to discuss taking up a project that could potentially land him his first job at one of the Big Three clubs in SA.

Middendorp was released early from his contract, which still had a year to run, following what chairman Kaizer Motaung put down to “the way of playing, our performance and results” a few days after Amakhosi were pipped to the league title by Mamelodi Sundowns.
Chiefs occupied the top of the log standings for much of the campaign that has just ended but lost their grip of the championship on the final day of the season on Saturday afternoon having only managed a draw against Baroka FC, while Sundowns beat Black Leopards.
The Siya crew has reported last week that Hunt had also been contacted by Orlando Pirates, a shock revelation given their current coach, Jozef Zinnbauer, has only been at the helm since December last year – and there’s an argument that he improved the side.

Motaung said last night that Chiefs hope to appoint a new coach before the end of the month and the scheduled talks, according to insiders, put Hunt as a serious contender for the hot seat at Naturena to replace Middendorp.
Hunt has been without a club since agreeing to a settlement with Bidvest Wits, a club that has been sold and will relocate to Venda next month.
