With deals between SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns now a common thread, the Siya crew looks at some of the most notable deals over the years.
The most recent deal is that of utility player Aubrey Modiba leaving Matsatsantsa to go to Chloorkop in what’s understood to be a lucrative five-year deal – but the two clubs have for years now done business together.
From Anthony Laffor and Elias Pelembe to the most bizarre deal involving Lerato Chabangu joining SuperSport only to be bought back by Sundowns!
The Brazilians have also used a few of their fringe players in swap deals to lure their priority targets and allowed their crosstown rivals to take them on loan and try revive their careers with an option to buy them outright.
Recently, it’s emerged that Downs are keen on signing the SuperSport midfield duo of Teboho Mokoena and Sipho Mbule, though they have international clauses on their contracts with the preference to see them move to Europe.
So it is likely then that Modiba’s move to Downs at the start of the season will not be the last long list of stars that moved from Matsatsantsa to the other side of Tshwane.
