What’s the story?
It can be said that Benni and Nomvethe are icons who will always be remembered for their contribution to South African football.
For the AmaZulu mentor, coach Benni was one of the most adored players of his time. Bursting onto the local scene with Seven Stars, the striker quickly made a name for himself as a lethal finisher.
Legends Of Mzansi Ball
He then found himself heading to Europe, starring for Ajax Amsterdam between 1999 and 2002. In what was his most successful spell abroad, Benni’s upward trajectory continued with Porto where he won numerous accolades including the coveted UEFA Champions League under the guidance of Jose Mourinho.
Nomvethe is currently the all-time leading goal scorer in the PSL, turning out for teams such as African Wanderers, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Moroka Swallows and AmaZulu.
The attacker was known for his goal scoring abilities and professionalism, as he continued to play the game into his late 40s.
Heroes At The Tank
That said, the AmaZulu mentors bumped into Springbok captain Siya Kolisi as the World Cup winning star took to his Instagram account in saluting the SA legends.
Kolisi uploaded a photo of himself posing alongside McCarthy and Nomvethe and said, “Legends zegame @bennimac17 @siyabonga.bhele.nomvethe blessed to be around these legends at the @sharksrugby Tank.”
