Footballers across the world made their voices heard this weekend when they took a stand against police brutality in the USA.
While the likes of Jadon Sancho, Weston Mackennie, Achraf Akimi and Marcus Thuram were fully focused on the matches at hand, the stars also used their platform to take a stand.
Hat trick hero Sancho in particular, had a damning message on his under garment that read “justice for George Floyd” after netting thrice in Borussia Dortmund’s 6-1 win over Paderborn.
The Manchester United target took to social media with a touching message after the match.
“First professional hat trick . A bittersweet moment personally as there are more important things going on in the world today that we must address and help make a change. We have to come together as one & fight for justice. We are stronger together! Red heart #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd ”
The incident follows the shocking video of American George Floyd, who died as a result of being suffocated by a white police officer outside a grocery store, after being accused of forgery.
The incident sparked outrage across the globe with athletes having their say on the matter.
Marcus Thuram took a knee after Borussia Monchengladbach’s match in The Bundesliga while Mckennie of Schalke 04 wore an armband with the same message.
