What’s the story?
It has been a whirlwind two weeks for the Pirates attacker, with his performances for Malawi at the Africa Cup of Nations being recognized from all angles.
Last week, the former Bidvest Wits star featured in the FIFA22 Team of the Week for his performance with the Malawian national team and shared the stage with players such Bruno Fernandes and Andy Robertson.
That said, Mhango caught the eye of many football fans and publications around the world, after he managed to net a stunning long-range effort in his country’s AFCON tie against Morocco.

The Bucs man opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a sublime effort, with many demining it to be a strong goal of the tournament contender. Adding to the effort, Mhango managed to evade Achraf Hakimi, a player Paris Saint Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe regarded as the ‘best right back in the world’.

Nonetheless, it was Morocco who had the last laugh in a 2-1 victory, with Hakimi making amends by scoring the winner in the 70th minute.
