Result: Platinum Stars 0-3 Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 04 October 2015

Venue: Moruleng Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs secured their place in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinals with a 3-0 win over Platinum Stars on Sunday afternoon.

Reyaad Pieterse was called into action inside the third minute, as he pulled off a fine save to keep out Vuyo Mere's curling free-kick.

Masibusane  Zongo was lucky not have seen red in the 28th minute, as replays suggests he elbowed Siphiwe Tshabalala in the face, however the player only received a yellow card.

Steve Komphela's side got stronger as the second half went on, as Edward Manqele fired into the side-netting in the 34th minute.

Chiefs' first meaningful opening arrived in the 37th minute when Siphiwe Tshabalala found some space 20-yards out before firing a volley just over the crossbar.

The visitors went ahead on the stroke of halftime when Eric Mathoho powered home a header at the far post, after getting on the end of Tshabalala's free-kick.

Camaldine Abraw nearly doubled Chiefs' lead in the 53rd minute but the striker's effort from the edge of the area was thwarted by Mzimela.

Komphela's men squandered a glorious chance to extend their lead in the 69th minute when Manqele teed up Abraw, who blasted over from inside the six-yard area.

Komphela introduced George Lebese after 60 minutes and the player nearly made the perfect impact but his stinging effort produced a fine save from Mzimela.

The woodwork came to the home side's rescue in the 80th when Tshabalala's curling free-kick rattled the upright with Mzimela well beaten.

Substitute Siphelele Mthembu doubled Chiefs lead in stoppage time with a composed finish, before George Maluleka showed great composure to lob Mzimale to make it 3-0 a minute later.

Here's how they lined up:

Platinum Stars: Mzimela, Mere, Nhlapo, Gumede, Zulu, Madubanya, Ng'ambi, Zongo, Msomi, Ntuli, Rodgers

Kaizer Chiefs:  Pieterse, Gaxa, Mathoho, Bukenya, Ritchie, Katsande, Letsholonyane, Tshabalala, Parker, Abraw, Manqele
