Defending Telkom Knockout champions SuperSport United made their way into the last eight with a 2-1 win over Polokwane City on Wednesday.
Matsatsantsa raced to a 1-0 lead after only four minutes as Thuso Phala found the back of the hosts' net in controversial fashion, after appearing to knock the ball out of the goalkeeper's hands in the lead-up.
However, Rise and Shine responded swiftly to level matters seven minutes later. Punch Masenamela played the ball in for Puleng Tlolane who did the rest.
The scoring continued in the 25th minute as Gordon Igesund's charges reclaimed their lead. Phala turned provider as he created the chance for Dove Wome who made no mistake with the finish.
SuperSport suffered a setback in the 35th minute when Bradley Grobler was shown a straight red card for a heavy tackle and stepping on his opponent.
Polokwane had a great opportunity to equalise for the second time when they were awarded a penalty in the 65th minute for a handball from Clayton Daniels, but Tlolane couldn't add a second as Ronwen Williams saved the spot-kick.
After the crucial penalty save Williams still had his hands full as Polokwane piled on the pressure, but he continued to keep United in front by making numerous stops and saw them safely through to the quarter-finals.
Here's how they lined up:
Polokwane City: Chigova, Phungwayo, Masenamela, Mbonani, Nyadombo, Nene, Shiba, Maluleke, Alexander, Tlolane, Faye
SuperSport United: Williams, Kekana, B.Khumalo, Daniels, S.Khumalo, Furman, Mkhabela, Phala, Wome, Grobler, Brockie
