Solinas Taking Aim At Amakhosi Treble?

Giovanni Solinas says that he’s thinking positive despite Kaizer Chiefs’ latest defeat, pointing out that there are still three trophies up for grabs for them this season.

The Glamour Boys were knocked out of the Telkom Knockout on Saturday afternoon after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of bitter rivals, Orlando Pirates, meaning that the club’s current barren run will continue on until at least mid-2019.

Chiefs have now gone 11 games in all competitions without beating the Buccaneers in normal time, and it’s nine games since they tasted any sort of victory at all against their neighbours.

Solinas admits that a ‘lapse in concentration’ cost them, though refused to point fingers at any individuals following the loss.

The club’s website quoted him as saying, “We are disappointed… Losing a Derby is painful. It’s a very sad day and we once more apologise to our supporters, who came in their numbers hoping to see us beat Pirates and progress to the final.

“A lapse in concentration cost us the match, but I don’t want to apportion blame on anyone – we win and lose together.”

All is not lost though, according to the Italian, who went on to say, “There are still three more trophies to play for this season… I will not give up and I will continue to work hard to improve the team. We have to remain positive. It is going to be difficult to sleep tonight though. But, come Sunday, we will roll up our sleeves and prepare for the next match.”

Chiefs will begin their CAF Confederation Cup campaign on Wednesday night against Zimamoto, while their next Absa Premiership game comes next month. The third and final trophy available this season will be the Nedbank Cup next year.
