Pirates & AmaTuks Player Ratings

Soccer Laduma rates the individual performances of the Orlando Pirates and the University of Pretoria players, following the Buccaneers' 2-1 win.

Orlando Pirates:

Felipe Ovono: 6

Was hardly called upon in the opening 45 minutes, he pulled off a fine save at the start of the second half, while there was nothing he could do about Mnyamane's equaliser.

Rooi Mahamutsa: 6

Did well to frustrate Nyondo for most of the half but looked to struggle with his movement and strength in the second stanza.

Ayanda Gcaba: 7

Popped up with a few good tackles in the first half, while he hardly put a foot wrong in the second half in the heart of the defence. He also popped up with well-taken goal in extra-time to clinch the win.

Happy Jele: 6

Jele put in a fine showing on both ends of the pitch, most notably going forward, as he troubled the AmaTuks defence with a couple inviting crosses from the right flank.

Thabo Matlaba: 6

Not the liveliest performance from the attacking full-back, although he did impressive on the defensive end.

Lehlogonolo Masalesa: 6

Certainly proving his worth in the middle of the park, did very well to help Pirates retain the lion's share of the ball and he also carried out his defensvie duties.

Thandani Ntshumayelo: 6

Did well to protect the back four and kept things ticking in the middle of the park whenever Pirates had possession, although he was replaced shortly after AmaTuks' equaliser.

Mpho Makola: 6

Looked very isolated on the left flank and only drifted inside on a couple occasions, although he did pick up the assist for Rakhale's goal.

Thabo Rakhale: 7

Looked lively down the right flank and showed some good touches in the final third, while he gave the Buccaneers the lead with a stunning effort from the edge of the area.

Kermit Erasmus: 6

Did well to help Pirates retain possession in the final third, although he wasn't as creative as he would like to have been, while also had his penalty saved in extra-time.

Thamsanqa Gabuza: 6

Despite not getting a lot of services in the box, Gabuza continued to work hard and hassle the AmaTuks defenders.

Substitutes:

Roger Majafa: 6

Brought on after the hour-mark to replace Ntshumayelo and certainly improved the Buccaneers going forward.

Sifiso Myeni: 6

Brought on the 66th minute and immediately ran at his defender, before firing into the side-netting. He was a constant threat down the left flank.

Lehlohonolo Majoro: 6

Replaced Gabuza in the 77th minute but hardly troubled the AmaTuks' defence, except for a wayward volley late in the second half.

University of Pretoria:

Washington Arubi: 6.5

Despite Pirates' domination, Arubi hardly had a save to make, he was helpless for both of Pirates' goals. Although he kept out Erasmus' penalty in extra-time.

Partson Jaure: 6

Jaure was moved to the heart of the defence and certainly held his own against the likes of Erasmus and Gabuza.

Willem Mwedihanga: 6

Along with Jaure, Mwedihanga did well frustrate the Pirates attack, who were forced into taking long rang efforts.

Siyabonga Ngubane: 6

Certainly impressed defensively in the first half, as he kept Matlaba and Makola quiet down the left flank, although he hardly impressed going forward.

Kabelo Lichaba: 6

The AmatTuks full-back had his hands full with Thabo Rakhale and Happy Jele in the first half, but he put in a stronger showing in the second stanza.

Thabo Mosadi: 6.5

Mosadi was hardly effective in the opening 45 minutes, but when AmaTuks started seeing more of the ball, he became a bigger threat and picked up the assist for the equaliser.

Khethukuthula Zwane: 6

Didn't have much joy down the left flank against Jele and spent most of the game tracking back.

Ronald Ketjijere: 6

Chased shadows for most of the game, as the Buccaneers saw most of the ball but he did put in a few important blocks.

Bongani Nyathi: 6

Nyathi impressed in the box-to-box role, certainly made his presence felt on both ends, although he gave away a couple needless fouls.

Thabo Mnyamane: 7

The AmaTuks winger had a very quiet first half, but he sprung into life in the second half, scoring the equaliser, while he troubled the Pirates back four with his direct running.

Atsuye Nyondo: 6

Spent the first closing down the Pirates side, while he proved to be real threat in the second half but he squandered a big chance to hand his side the lead shortly after Mnyamane's equaliser.

Substitutes:

Tebogo Monyai: 6

Brought on in the first half of extra-time but failed to make the desire impact.

Vuyisile Ntombayithethi: NA

Not on the field long enough to receive a rating.
