How Pirates Extended Unbeaten Run & Amakhosi Dominance
Orlando Pirates not only extended their unbeaten run for this season with their victory over Kaizer Chiefs, but also their dominant run against their Soweto neighbours.
The Buccaneers booked their spot in the Telkom Knockout final yesterday as they secured a 2-1 win at Moses Mabhida Stadium, with Thembinkosi Lorch and Justin Shonga getting the vital goals for Milutin Sredojevic’s side.
‘Micho’ has never lost to Chiefs in any of his encounters with the club, and he managed to keep up that trend on Saturday as Pirates made it 12 games in all competitions since they last lost a competitive game of football. The last time to beat them was Bloemfontein Celtic back in August.
The win means that the Bucs now find themselves on their longest streak without defeat since March 2015, and it’s almost four years since Chiefs managed to beat them without a penalty shootout.
With the midseason break approaching, Pirates currently find themselves in their first final since June 2017, and sitting pretty at the top of the Absa Premiership table with almost half of their games played.
