Under Pressure Chiefs Coach Explains Booysen/Ngezana Pairing
Kaizer Chiefs have been known for the consistent rotation of their defence over the course of the season so far, but now Giovanni Solinas has been questioned after deciding not to change it.
The Glamour Boys suffered more heartbreak on Saturday afternoon as they were downed by their bitter rivals, Orlando Pirates, in the semi-finals of the Telkom Knockout, meaning that their lengthy trophy drought will run until at least mid-2019.
Solinas, who is coming under growing pressure from fans, opted to start Mario Booysen and Siyabonga Ngezana against the Buccaneers, although there were questions raised about both goals during the 2-1 defeat at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
According to the club’s official website, Solinas commented on the pair, saying, “We had been doing well the past three games. Mario Booysen is a good organiser who communicates well, while Siyabonga Ngezana is a future player for the national team, being strong and working hard. The two have done well in the past three games, hence we continued with their pairing for this Soweto Derby.”
Solinas is expected to make changes later this week when Chiefs’ CAF Confederation Cup campaign gets underway, with the club hosting Zimamoto in their return to continental football.
