Head Coach Gavin Hunt says that his Bidvest Wits side would have been at the top of the log if they had won four more Absa Premiership fixtures just as they had won the four matches to be crowned Telkom Knockout champions.
The Clever Boys lifted the 2017 edition Telkom Knockout trophy on Saturday, after defeating Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 at the Princess Magogo Stadium.
Speaking after the match, Head Coach Hunt says that he remains positive about the league standings despite the Students’ poor form.
“Well I said, the four games we won in the cup, if we won four games in the league, we would have been on top of the league that is how crazy the league is at the moment. So, ya, we would like to think so but we will try and juggle a little for Wednesday and see what we got. But, I can’t change too much because I don’t have too much,” Hunt told the media as he looks ahead to this week’s league encounter.
“We are ten points behind with a game in hand and we are at the bottom, it is crazy. So, I don’t think any team is going to get over 60 (points) SuperSport can and Sundowns but, they are in a good position and they have the squad.
It is important for us to take everything into (consideration).
"The team has got good determination and good togetherness and that is always the first thing that worries you when you are at the bottom of the league – togetherness and the will and all those throwaway words but together we are fine, we are okay,” he added.
