Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach, Farouk Khan thinks that there are no favourites in the upcoming Soweto Derby.
Chiefs will lock horns with Orlando Pirates on Saturday in the semi-finals of the Telkom Knockout competition, which will take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
The Mabhida Stadium has been known to host many cup finals, with most recently Cape Town City and SuperSport United locking horns in two consecutive MTN8 finals.
Both these encounters have failed to produce a winner in 90 minutes, as it was forced into extra time and penalties.
Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Khan agreed that despite it just being the semi-final of the competition, cup games are very unpredictable and there could be the likelihood that this encounter could also end in a draw after 90 minutes and possibly see the game go into extra time.
“Cup football is very unpredictable. League form means nothing. Pirates are offensively superior however they concede too many goals. I don’t believe there is an outright favourite,” Khan told the Siya crew.
“Very possible as both teams will be conservative,” he said when asked about the possibility of a draw after 90-minutes.
“Our ability in scoring is poor, to say the least. The game may also be decided by an error.
"Hopefully the atmosphere (sold out stadium) will drive both teams to produce an exciting, memorable match,” Khan added.
