Lerato Chabangu is expected to make his debut against his former side this weekend, when Mamelodi Sundowns host Chippa United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday. The two sides are going head-to-head in the first round of the Telkom Knockout.
While the Chilli Boys and Brazilians face off, all eyes will be on the 30-year-old midfielder, who played over 120 games for Sundowns.
The former South African international is one of the most talented players that Mzansi fans have seen play in his generation, and he could prove to be a problem for coach Pitso Mosimane’s side on his debut.
Club boss, Siviwe Mpengesi, confirmed the news to Soccer Laduma and is dreaming of yet another final coming to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
“We’ve got Lerato Chabangu starting the game,” he said. “Chippa United are adding value in this country, giving joy and hope to the people. Since we came to Port Elizabeth, the Mandela Stadium is attracting finals so we’re hoping for things to turn good.”
