Khuzwayo To Challenge Soweto Derby Debut For Bucs?

Brilliant Khuzwayo, who is yet to make his official debut for Orlando Pirates this season, has been showing signs of readiness and that he is itching for game-time.

With Bucs preparing for their second Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs in a space of just four weeks, an indication is that the shot-stopper may be ready to return to the field for competitive, top-flight football.

Having been delayed by an injury in his progress at the Buccaneers, as he underwent an operation at the start of the season, the player returned to full training with the team last month and has been hard at work in trying to catch up with the other players with fitness.

Khuzwayo has been as one of the three goalkeepers (the other two being Siyabonga Mpontshane and Jackson Mabokgwane) selected for Bucs’ CAF Champions League campaign, which is set to begin with the match against Light Stars of Seychelles on the week of 27-28 November.

Some Pirates fans had hoped to see Khuzwayo make his official debut for Bucs during the league match against Chiefs three weeks ago already.

However, Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic said that there had been no rush in immediately introducing the 28-year-old to the thick of things after his injury.

Said the Serbian mentor at the time, “We shall not rush because the operation has gone and the problems that he has and the way to come back is (that he is) hard-working, he’s on the good road. But when this will come, we shall make so many filters, medical filter and technical filter and goalkeeping coach filter and so many filters before we use him… utilise him in the best possible way.”

Khuzwayo took to his official Twitter account this past week to show some of the work he has been putting in at Pirates training, ahead of the upcoming Soweto derby.

Pirates and Chiefs are set to play their Telkom Knockout semi-final match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on October 24.
