Barker: Maritzburg Need A Quality Striker
Maritzburg United coach Clive Barker highlighted his side's lack of a cutting edge after their 2-0 defeat against Orlando Pirates in the Telkom Knockout on Saturday.
The Team of Choice created a couple of good chances during the game, but lacked the quality in front of goal to take advantage.
Barker was pleased with how United improved but made it clear that they need to add a natural goal-scorer in order to turn their season around.
Barker said: "I thought they played better. There were times when they created chances for the first time. They looked like they were passing the ball better. First touch was better all round."
"So there were a lot of things to take out that were positive. Obviously there are always negative things that come out of a game when you lose."
He added: "In the first half we had two one-on-ones with the goalkeeper. If you don't put those away you're asking for trouble."
"There's no doubt about it. The directors are aware of what we need. We need an out-and-out striker. A quality player up front. If they get that they have a chance to turn it around. If they don't, they've got problems."
