Local Football Fever In October!

With the first piece of silverware up for grabs in the form of the MTN8, the local football season is beginning to take shape quite nicely. And with some cracking fixtures in the month of October, expect fireworks as SuperSport and Soccer Laduma give you the best football action.

Highlands Park vs SuperSport United

Saturday 5 October

SS4 (SA), SS10 & SS9 (ROA) Kickoff at 18:00 (CAT)

SuperSport United go into the MTN8 final with a more illustrious pedigree with 11 PSL trophies whereas Highlands Park have never played in a major final before, their current form is identical with both sides only losing once in their last nine matches. With the teams level on points in the Absa Premiership too, it all adds up to it being a very closely contested final at Orlando Stadium.

Stellenbosch vs Orlando Pirates

Saturday 26 October

SS4 (SA) & SS9 (ROA) Kickoff at 15:30(CAT)

With only one win in their last nine matches in all competitions, Pirates will have nearly a month without any league fixtures where they can assess what’s gone wrong and regroup for their next game against newly-promoted Stellenbosch. While the results have been disappointing for the Buccaneers, they’ve had no problems scoring recently with eight goals in their last three matches.

Mamelodi Sundowns vs Kaizer Chiefs

Sunday 27 October

SS4 (SA) & SS9 (ROA) Kickoff at 15:30(CAT)

With Masandawana looking for a third successive Absa Premiership title and the Glamour Boys looking for their first league title since 2015, both sides have started their season promisingly. It’s a chance for Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp to improve his poor record against Pitso Mosimane, with the German having lost eight of his last nine matches against the four-time league winner.

Bloemfontein Celtic vs SuperSport United

Wednesday 30 October

SS4 (SA) & SS9 (ROA) Kickoff at 19:30(CAT)

In the last league fixture of the month, SuperSport United face an interesting trip to Bloemfontein Celtic who’ve had a mixed start after their highest league finish in four years last season. SuperSport are unbeaten eight Absa Premiership matches against Celtic, but they haven’t beaten them away from home in the league since 2012.
