While the lockdown period has been a challenging time for everyone around the world, Mamelodi Sundowns could at least use the ‘break’ to finally rest.
Over the past years, the Brazilians have been challenging on all fronts – domestically and on the continent, wherein they hardly had any time to rest between seasons due to the overlap of the CAF Champions League.
However, with the COVID-19 lockdown putting a break on football for over two months, Sundowns could use the time to finally rejuvenate before finally getting back to action.
“We have been through a difficult time with the pandemic and the lockdown, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. We look forward to returning to the field of play because that is who we are and what we stand for. We want to continue where we left off, but we really needed this rest,” Mabunda said on Sundowns’ official website.
“For the first time in seven years we have had time to rest. So I am looking forward to restarting the engine and playing high intensity football. We are geared up to retain our title. I believe the boys are ready and want to also celebrate the club turning 50 years,” he added.
