Rulani: I’m Not Even Thinking About Chiefs

Rulani Mokwena maintains that his focus is nowhere near the upcoming back-to-back fixtures against his Soweto rivals.

Orlando Pirates will lock horns with Kaizer Chiefs in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinals and straight after, in the Absa Premiership.

However, with all the attention been given to the upcoming two Soweto derbies, the Buccaneers have a more important opponent to worry about first.

Pirates will face off with Highlands Park on Tuesday evening, with the Bucs still winless against Owen da Gama’s side since their promotion back in to the top flight.

The Pirates head coach uttered a similar sentiment to Pitso Mosimane, who previously maintained that a clash against Chiefs is not as important as the fixture that comes before then, which was also a meeting with the Lions of the North.

“I am not even thinking about Chiefs, I’ve got Highlands Park next on Tuesday, you saw how difficult it was for even Sundowns to beat Highlands Park, hard-running team,” Head Coach Mokwena said after his side’s 1-0 loss to Stellenbosch FC.

“They (Highlands) are very good on dead ball situations and are a difficult team with lots of very good players up front; they have lots of speed.”

“For now – what’s important is to analyse this game, clean it and focus 100% on Highlands, that is our most important game at the moment, not Kaizer Chiefs.”

“I am not even thinking about Kaizer Chiefs or the back-to-back derbies and I am being honest, my focus at this moment in time is to make sure that we win against Highlands Park,” he added.
