Ajax Cape Town rising star, Kegan Johannes, was the latest player to join Director of Coerver® Coaching, Cayle Coetsee, in an intense virtual training session and then caught up with the 19-year-old in an insightful discussion afterward.

Coming up through the ranks at the famous Ikamva academy, the versatile player shared the difficulties he experienced growing up in the area of Bishop Lavis, Cape Town.

Despite the widespread gangsterism and violence that he was exposed to, he chose to walk another path, away from the dangers of crime and dangerous living.

The Cape Town-born player also shared what the number 27 meant to him along with his ambitions to play in the Absa Premiership next season and do his best to play among Europe’s elite.

During this interview, Johannes also said…

  • "You tell yourself, I want to be cool as well…"
  • "It’s about going against the stream…"
  • "You know something good can happen…"
  • "It’s tough in life, in football…"

Do you think that Ajax Cape Town will gain promotion to the Absa Premiership next season?
