Benni: My Grandma Could Have Put Those Goals In

Benni McCarthy Has Expressed His Disappointment With His Side's Inability To Score Goals

By Soccer Laduma - Feb 28, 2018 10:59 AM

Cape Town City head coach, Benni McCarthy, has expressed his disappointment in his side’s inability to score goals.

The Citizens suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in the Absa Premiership after losing away to Baroka FC last night at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Baroka managed to get two goals past City’s Shuaib Walters, despite the Citizens looking like they were in control of the encounter.

However, after countless missed chances for City, McCarthy revealed after the match that he thought even his grandmother would be able to put the balls in the back of the net.

“You can play beautiful football, you can dominate for 90 minutes, entertain the fans, but if you don’t put the ball in the back of the net you ain't going to win games and I am afraid that it’s the story of our season, you know,” McCarthy told SuperSport TV.

“We play nice football and I could count, 4, 5, at least five goalscoring chances, I think even my Grandma could have put it in.

“You put yourself on the back foot because you don’t want to score the goals and then they get two chances the whole game, two goals, and when you play football you play to win and when you don’t put the ball at the back of the net I am afraid no matter how good your team plays, how well organised you look, when you make two mistakes that cost you two goals and yeah…

“I don’t even know what I am going to say to the boys because you can’t be hard because they really went out there to put on a show but unfortunately if you don’t score goals, you don’t win football games.

"It becomes difficult and now it looks like it is a mountain to climb again for us but yeah, back to the drawing board, we continue to push forward,” he added.

People fail to understand this. if you were a great footballer that doesnt mean you will automatically become a great coach. its that kind of mentality that sees Jomo Sono and his team in and out of the psl. there are a lot of fundamentals that go in working with players. getting the players to play for you. getting the ones that dont play to respect you and getting to protect your players when they loose. Benni does not protect his guys. instead he exposez them. and for that he wont last long. Its like allowing Juju Malema to run the country. disaster. Manner of approach. Charisma. He is good down there at the reserves and analysing games with Robert Marawa. is he reliable with coaching seasoned players? not so sure

Foot ball coaching is not for the faint hearted Benni, you still have a lot to learn. You might end up losing your job for those stupid utterances.

Did he just drop a hint that he's going to sign her? It looks likes he's desperate to get someone who will put away those chances

Since Teboho Moloi is under pressure is Benni under pressure too? sometimes we should blame players as well they must come to the party. Coaches are doing all they can and players has to help them to improve the team
