Rantie’s Future In Doubt At City?

Tokelo Rantie is not experiencing a dream return to South Africa’s top flight, with the player’s immediate future currently in question.

According to Siya sources in the know, Cape Town City are growing impatient with the Bafana Bafana international, as he seems to not be making the needed progress with regards to his fitness.

Rantie is currently still battling with his fitness levels, with the 28-year-old having not played a single game since he joined the club at the end of August this year.

According to Siya sources, the club may be looking to open up crunch talks with the player, suggesting that if he does not regain his match fitness in the new year, the club could consider letting the player go.

City currently have Rantie, Siphelele Mthembu, Matthew Rusike and Nana Akosah-Bempah on their books as strikers for the 2018/19 campaign and with Rantie believed to be one of the highest earners at the club, the player is not living up to expectations.

City’s top goalscorers are Ayanda Patosi and Mthembu with four goals each, with Rusike following up with two goals so far this season.

In addition, according to the Absa Premiership statistics, Patosi and Rusike are currently in the top 10 of players with the highest goal ratio per 90 minutes, with the Zimbabwean’s rate at 0.36 per 90, and Patosi at 0.51 per 90.

However, despite their figures not being the best in Mzansi’s top flight, Rantie has quite some space to catch up on, for a player who is rated as a top South African striker, he is expected to be living up to the expectations of the public.

Now, it remains to be seen what decision City will look to take with regards to Rantie’s immediate future.
