Can Sundowns Change Their Horrible MTN8 Record?

SportPesa ambassador, Doctor Khumalo shares his insights on some of the biggest ABSA Premiership, MTN8 and English Premier League fixtures to be played during midweek and this weekend.

Mamelodi Sundowns v SuperSport United

This is the second leg of the MTN8 after the two teams played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg, with Sundowns scoring an important away goal. They’re going back to the same venue, as they share it, so the home and away factor doesn’t count in terms of travelling in this case. I expect both technical teams to come up with great plans like they did in the first game and cancel each other out. This is going to be a tactical game and I will give it to SuperSport to win it on penalties.

Soccer Laduma tip: We have to give Mamelodi Sundowns this one. After their impressive 5-0 win in the CAF Champions League, the confidence from that first leg tie will see them through to the MTN8 final.

Stellenbosch FC v Black Leopards

Leopards have lost so many games and have not been the same enterprising team they were last season. Yes both teams haven’t started the season well and will be hoping to use this game as a turning point in their fortunes. I tip Stellenbosch to beat their fellow strugglers and collect maximum points.

Soccer Laduma tip: We have to agree with Doc on this one, simply because Stellenbosch FC have a goal in them. With the quality of players like Mark van Heerden on set pieces and a decent defence with the likes of Morgan Gould, this should see them to all three points.

Bidvest Wits v Orlando Pirates

There was a period where Bidvest stadium was a slaughter house but that’s changed in recent years. The fact that Wits are taking this game to Moses Mabhida stadium could work in Pirates’ favour. Coach Rulani Mokwena will be looking to maintain the winning momentum although it isn’t going to be easy at all against coach Gavin Hunt’s charges. I think a draw will be a fair prediction.

Soccer Laduma tip: We have to agree with Doc on this one. Although Orlando Pirates got their first win under Rhulani Mokwena, they still look vulnerable. Gavin Hunt will be looking for a response after their disapointing defeat against Young Buffaloes in the CAF Confederation cup.

Chelsea v Liverpool

Liverpool are enjoying a great winning streak, playing good football. Chelsea, on the other hand, are still trying to find their feet under their new coach, the legendary Frank Lampard. I don’t think they are ready to stop Liverpool, so I expect another win for coach Jürgen Klopp’s team.

Soccer Laduma tip: We have to agree with Doc on this one. Liverpool look imperious at the moment and we think the Reds could record a big win at Stanford Bridge.
