In this week’s SportPesa Clubhouse column, ambassador Doctor Khumalo spoke out about confidence and how key it is for both players and coaches to have this instilled in them.
He has continued on the conversation as he pointed out that international teams have continuously shown their confidence no matter how big or small the club is. He also made mention of the fact that the players that will be representing Bafana Bafana against Seychelles in their AFCON qualifier matches must be oozing with confidence in the games.
“When you look overseas, you see teams fully confident regardless of the opposition and the smaller teams always giving their all, no matter who they are up against. Now the coach’s challenge is to ensure that they get that confidence from their players all the time, regardless of the opposition.
“It is time for the boys that will be representing the national team in these two important games against Seychelles to show that confidence, and go on and win both games. Confidence comes through success and positive outcomes.
“The coach might be confident that he has done all he needed to do to prepare for the games, but if the players don’t feel that way, then the coach’s confidence isn’t going to help. Wear that jersey with pride because you deserve to be there, otherwise, the coach wouldn’t have called you up if you didn’t prove yourself to him.
“Look inside and ask yourself if you are a player that is going to make South Africa proud. You’re not doing this just for yourself or your family, but the whole country. You want to leave a mark and you can change people’s perspective of the national team by showing that confidence and delivering the good results.”
Khumalo continued to chat about going out and grabbing the bull by the horns in his column. To read the full story, get yourself a copy of this week’s Soccer Laduma, issue 1094.
