Doc: What A Historical Year This Could Turn Out To Be

In this week’s SportPesa Clubhouse column ambassador, Doctor Khumalo went on to send his well wishes to Banyana Banyana as the women’s national team are currently in France in preparation for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign.

So far, the Desiree Ellis-led squad has played in a number of international friendlies, however they have failed to win any of those encounters and will be hoping that they fine tune their mistakes before their opening match against Spain next Sunday.

Check out Doc Khumalo’s SportPesa Betting tips for this week

“I would like to wish the ladies all the best in their endeavour to represent the country with pride at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with their first match of the tournament against Spain on June 8. I wish coach Desiree Ellis and her team all the best. They must go out there and continue to make us proud, after such a wonderful send-off. I just hope and wish that everything goes well for them, although it isn’t going to be easy.

“Like I said, it is very good for our teams to qualify for these tournaments and it makes me proud to be a South African. We have our U20 and Banyana Banyana at the World Cup, and we also have our cricket and rugby teams to also look forward to. What a historical year this could turn out to be for our different sporting codes. Remember, the Netball World Cup is approaching as well and it feels great to know that our teams will be facing off against some of the best in the world.

“Our players will benefit a lot from the exposure in the international arena. The experience is second to none and I wish all our teams everything of the best. We now have to ensure that we groom the next generation of these respective codes while the current players are still at their peak. That’s the only way to ensure continuity and sustainability. We can’t afford to go three steps forward and take 10 steps backwards, like we’ve done in the past. All the best to Bafana in their COSAFA Cup match against Botswana.”

Khumalo also went on to talk about the passing away of TS Galaxy player Thembinkosi Mbamba after making history with his club when the NFD-outfit went on to win the Nedbank Cup title this month.
