In this week’s SportPesa Clubhouse column ambassador, Doctor Khumalo spoke out on the heartache that took place after Kaizer Chiefs failed to end the season with a trophy in hand when the team lost to NFD-outfit, TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup final last weekend.
Khumalo made mention of how the Amakhosi faithful had high expectations and were let down by the team’s performance on the day.

“Look, it is not for me to say much about what it meant to the club’s die-hard supporters who travelled all the way to Durban, and those watching from home, with high expectations. I know it is a very, very, very hurtful situation. Dominating the supporters at the stadium, with the pedigree of players they have at their disposal, I thought they were supposed to clinch the title, but it wasn’t to be. That’s just how the game is and you might think it is going to be a walk in the park for you, and it just doesn’t happen that way. The game has evolved and it is unfortunate that Chiefs couldn’t emulate their English counterparts, Manchester City, who made sure to kill the game off against Watford and went on to win 6-0. How often do you hear of a cup final score line like that? That said, what City did is how you should handle playing against lower division teams because the longer the game remains goalless, the more confident they become.
“I honestly never thought I’d ever witness history repeating itself the way it did on Saturday night for Chiefs. It was a very emotional loss and I really felt an unbearable pain so much that I went to bed earlier than anticipated because I just couldn’t take it. I don’t want to say players failed the team or anything like that, but for the team to go back to the glory days, well, something drastic needs to happen! I know that the Chairman, Bobby Motaung and everyone at Chiefs aren’t just folding their arms and will not just leave things as they are. This was one of the biggest blows and knowing the chairman, who gave me an opportunity to become the person I am today, I know how he feels about this situation. He doesn’t ask much, all he wants is for the players to put a smile on the supporters’ faces and make him happy, that’s all.”
‘16V’ also made mention of the PSL end of season awards ceremony and the winners.
